Muslims from the north of Italy wrote a letter to the President of the country, Giorgo Napolitano, asking him to intervene to help solve the problems of discrimination that affects them because of the anti-inmigrant policies of the Northern League Party, that treats them as "second-class citizens". A lack of mosques, their traditional food are just a few examples of violation of their constitutional rights.--------------------------------------
Personally, I think that this type of issue is more important that it might look like. When we are talking about constitutional rights, tolerance and respect for the different cultures that coexist together, there is no better option than justice. If Italy has muslim citizens, they should be respected as they deserve. Basic things like mosques or proper food (they don't eat pork) must be available for them. It is fair and correct to provide them the basic tools they need so they can live as good as any other italian citizen, regardless of the policies that some party might have.
It is surprising how discrimination is still spreading all over the world in the twenty first century. These forms of discrimination from government authorities or political parties toward different minority groups has been turning more and more recurrent in Europe. The European Union should be more involved in the cases of discrimination and it must promote the tolerance and respect among its citizens. The fact that a country or a region has a diverse population is a strength not a weakness. The best example of this is the United States, many experts agree that this nation would not be what it is (in terms of economy, technological advances, development, etc.) without its diverse and multicultural population.
ReplyDeleteToday the number of Muslim is increasing dramatically in the world. At the same time, there are many problems on Muslim immigrants especially in Europe, because Islam culture is not familiar to Western culture, for example, about food, scarf, and jihad. It is wrong to neglect it, just because it is different or weird. As globalization is developing, the world is closer and closer. We have no choice to communicate with people all over the world and need to correct cross cultural understanding.
ReplyDeleteTHESE days the most important things is civil rights each person must have the minimum rights that make him as integral person in this community. However, discrimination according to religion, race and ethnicity is one thing violate this rights so, people must have their own ways to deal with this life without violating the law.
