France’s eight leading trade unions Thursday held their second day of strikes this month. They demonstrated against government pension reforms, including the retirement age. According to The Interior Ministry, the number of the people protested in the demonstrations was near a million. But Unions still hoped to bring more people to Thursday’s demonstration. A bill was passed last week by France's National Assembly to raise the national retirement age from 60 to 62, and to relieve the financial burden on the pension system. But the bill must pass the Senate to become law. Some concessions were seen in the bill, including allowing some people in labor-intensive or dangerous jobs to retire at age 60. Unions were hoping Thursday's strikes would result in more concessions. But the government has made clear it will not compromise with the main idea of the bill.

My points of view
This situation has really put French government to a test. On one hand, many people are not satisfied with the passage of raising the retirement age. On the other hand, the government's pension system is almost in deficit. What the government have to do now is to estabilish new law. However, before the government take something good from the hands of its people, they should also give back something good. Accordingly, concessions are necessary and the Unions must do ,within its power, whatever to ask the people to make the government concess.

My opinion, France always has complicated situation such as strikes and interior problems. regarding this problem one thing should be done which is the restoring the normal state status either by creating new laws or keep the same law in order to make people satisfied.
ReplyDeleteI believe that all goverment has to struggle at some point with this kind of situation, even though it is really to determine who is right. It is a truth fact that the system can't handle the defficit they are in, and as it is said, people are not happy with the decisions that has been taken. All of this it is because of lack of communication between the goverment and the people. so I just think that they should talk more, and try to get to an agreement.

The situation is critical for French President because of this opposition. I think that Nicolas Sarkozy has to meet with Syndicates in order to find a solution..
