UN Rights Chief Hits Russia on Murders (Elea)

GENEVA — The United Nations' human rights chief criticized Russia on Monday for failing to bring to justice the killers of journalists and rights campaigners. UN officials said Navi Pillay's strong remarks, in which she also rapped Azerbaijan and Belarus, marked a ratcheting up of her determination to point to alleged abuses wherever they occurred. Civil society groups have been hit by laws and other measures restricting their action in many states, including Belarus, she said.

I agree with the fact that the United Nation's human rights chief criticized Russia, for not bringing to justice the killers of journalists and rights campaigners, because in my opinion, I consider we have to bring to justice, every big mistake of that magnitude, for example in this situation of murder innocent people. This is the reason why countries are they way they are, with corruption, and in this situation they don't do anything. The people who make huge mistakes should be punished.

  1. The fact that the united nation chief hits on Russia, which is one of the more powerful country in the world definitely shows how determined the UN actors are to fight injustice wherever it happens. It inadmissible that, nowadays, some entire civil society doesn’t have fundamentals rights and is still restricted in their actions. The right to express is a human right and got to be respected everywhere, no matter if it is Russia, Belarus or Azerbaijan. That is why this section of the united nation exists. Mentioning it is a good thing but now, some concrete action got to be done.

  2. Justice is one of the most important foundations for any society, and the authorities must ensure conduct the justice in an equitable way, I think that is the main reason why the United Nations expressed its complaint with the Russian government about this issue.
It is definitely important listen what the United Nations has to say in aspects like human rights but I think that the UN should performance a more active role, especially in this matter (human rights) which involve the security and the life of millions of people. For example, the pronouncements of the UN about the human rights situation during the crisis following the coup in Honduras were more than minimum. As a Honduran who lived that situation, I consider a UN intervention was necessary to avoid the terrible acts that were perpetrated against a lot of Honduran civilians detractors of the facto government; however, there weren’t even a strong pronouncing of the United Nations like this declaration about Russia and other Ex-soviet republics, which confirms the crude reality that in the international relations as powerful a country is, as relevant its situation is.
