Chancellor Merkel Wants to Concrete Targets for the Integration of Immigrants (Posted by Nelson Salgado)

German chancellor Angela Merkel has expressed her desire to concretize government plans to integrate immigrants into the society. These declarations occurred in the frame of the "Inmigration Summit" held this morning in the capital of the Teutonic country.
Emphasizing how important is the fact that society should be more interested in integrating immigrants, chancellor Merkel remarked the efforts that national government has been doing efforts to improve immigrants situation in Germany. For instance, the so-called "Integration Courses" has been introduced since 2005, and it is estimated that by 2015, every immigrant will have the opportunity to join these courses.
Opposition leaders have cataloged this meeting as "merely symbolic" claiming that it will not change the reality for immigrants in Germany.

In my Opinion...
I consider that the fact of Germany is having now an inclusive politic toward immigrants is a good politic strategy. German authorities have realized what many other European governments have not yet: Immigrants are fundamental  for any industrialized country's economy, representing an important source of labor. It is smartest to educate them, to teach them the language and to make them feel part of the society rather than to treat them as delinquents, which is the case of several countries in both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. This also improves Chancellor Merkel's image among public opinion both within Germany and internationally. There is no doubt that other governments in Europe and the Americas should start to think about how to deal with their own migrant politics in a better way.

  2. I consider that what Chancellor Merkel is a great thing, I was surprised when I read this. It fills me with joy to know that, there is a concern about people from other countries, who migrate to Germany, to find better opportunities in contrast with their home countries or others.

In my opinion, Italy and Spain and not only those, many of other countries from all over world should do same, with the fact that the should create a policy that integrate immigrants to their societies.

  3. The process for integratinig immigrants in a new society is a very important step ahead that Germany is doing now.Germany is now trying to rewrite its history. It's a very important initiative that Berlin is doing, but such decision cannot be followed by france, Spain or any other European country because of the goal of the decision. German history is very different from Spain History and I really don't agree with Elea about other countries which should do the same thing. Situation of immigrants is not the same everywhere and the economic cost of such politics is enorm, so without a very well defined objectif it's not really a good idea to take the risk. This kind of policy can affect the internal stability of a country.
